The family of late former CEO of popular online store Konga, Nick Imudia, has denied reports that he committed suicide and said they have launched an investigation into his death.
Recall that Imudia, who was reportedly serving as the CEO of D.light International until his death, committed suicide in 2019 at his residence in Lekki area of Lagos State.
State Police Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin also confirmed the incident to newsmen on Thursday.
“Yes, it is true. He is alleged to have committed the act on June 25. The Yaba SCID Homicide Unit has started an investigation,” said Hendin.
However, a statement signed by Dr Anthony Imudia on behalf of the deceased’s family and obtained by The Leadership newspaper on Sunday refuted reports that Imudia had made farewell calls and left instructions to his brother and daughter before his death, saying the claims were false.
The statement read: “Nick Imudia’s family is upset that the media has unprofessionalised reports of Nick Imudia’s death have incorrectly characterized it as a suicide.

“The office of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police also backed the claim and vowed to investigate Nick’s sudden death.
“Nick neither called his brother in the US to instruct on how to distribute his wealth nor did he call his daughter to give any instructions.
“Why was this news reported so hastily (less than 3 hours after his death) when his family didn’t even know about it and the medical team was still trying to revive him in the hospital! The Imudia family is puzzled!
“Nick has never shown any signs of stress and has not been diagnosed with depression. The suicidal thoughts that were hastily reported by the news media are questionable.”
The family further revealed that Nick was a lively person, adding that his relatives are still in shock over the news of his death.
The statement read: “Nick was a man of great vitality and those who worked closely with him or saw him in the hours before his death are shocked that the media has attributed his death to ‘suicide’.
“Nick was in his prime and had achieved so much that people who knew him were shocked and refused to accept that his death was a suicide.
“Nick’s family asks the media and the public to allow them to mourn their loved one and to refrain from any unfounded rumors about the circumstances of his death.”
