Long Island | Douglas McHardy reportedly drowned at Dean’s Blue Hole on Saturday, August 10, 2024, and his body was found around 5:45 pm this afternoon (Monday, August 12, 2024).

The man’s body was found 600 feet below sea level following a systematic search of Dean’s Blue Hole by police and members of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force using an unmanned submersible.

The police are currently communicating directly with the family of the deceased and deep-water experts (technical divers) to develop a plan to salvage the man’s body without compromising the safety of the divers. The police will release further information after the salvage work is completed.

The Royal Bahamas Police Force expresses its deepest condolences to his family.

The Bahamas News Agency recalls that two sisters and a daughter lost their lives in the same Dean Blue Hole in 2008. Faye Major, 45, her 14-year-old daughter Diedre and her 40-year-old sister Renee Pinder all drowned in the hole while enjoying a family fun day with their parents and grandparents, the late Bishop Harcourt and Hazel Pinder. That incident was described as a dangerous afternoon.

Today, Mr. McHardy is a fisherman and skilled diver, making a living from the sea.

BP extends its condolences to the family of the late Mr McHardy, especially his wife Roseanna (who buried her mother on Saturday) and their children.

May he rest in peace.
