It must not have been easy for Lim Guan Eng and Ramasamy to see their old comrades like Chow Kon Yeow and Hannah Ho living so happily or smiling as they went to the bank while they themselves were destitute.

Solidarity only applies to losers. When you are the winner, solidarity only applies to themselves. As the saying goes, the winner is always lonely.

No one in Malaysia today understands this better than the Democratic Action Party.

The Democratic Action Party was once the biggest loser in the country, but they united like Leonidas’ 300 warriors in the Battle of Thermopylae. Whether they were Chinese, Malays or Indians, they would rather die than abandon their comrades and fought bravely under the fierce attacks of the powerful Barisan Nasional army.

But today they are the victors, and guess what, they no longer need enemies. They are enough to blame each other.

The first person to be dumped from the DAP after the DAP victory was Penang Deputy Chief Minister Ramasamy. Ramasamy’s “I am a one-man army not afraid to speak truth to power” approach to dealing with DAP opponents had made him a darling of the opposition whenever the DAP lost. However, after the DAP victory, Ramasamy’s style of politics was suddenly no longer considered admirable or courageous. Suddenly, “Loose Classic” and “unmanageable” started being bandied about when talking about Ramasamy.

In the six state elections in August last year, Ramasamy was kicked out of the Penang state election by the Democratic Action Party, which turned Ramasamy from one of the staunch supporters of the Democratic Action Party to one of its most fierce critics in a snap of the fingers.

Ramasamy’s resentment towards the DAP is so strong that in the Kuala Kubu Bau by-election a few weeks ago and the upcoming Sungai Bakap by-election, Ramasamy basically campaigned on the basis of “As long as it’s not Dapp” That is to say, although he is not running for election and does not support any particular political party, he just hopes that voters will not vote for DAP or Pakatan Harapan.

Ramasamy has unsurprisingly become one of the main critics of his former comrade Yeo in the Yeo controversy, posting constantly through his social media pages and the space given to him by media outlets such as Focus Malaysia and Malaysiakini, explaining how shameful it was that a company whose husband was the CEO received lucrative government contracts while Yeo was a cabinet minister.

While Hannah did not say a word to defend herself against Ramasamy’s attacks – perhaps it was her husband who told her a Tamil proverb: “When a thief is stung by a bee, the best thing to do is to keep his mouth shut” – her friend, DAP Women’s Wing chairperson Teo Nie Ching, inexplicably came to her defence. Putting Lim Guan Eng in danger.

Teo said it was “unfair” and “premature” for Ramasamy to ask Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh to resign over the involvement of a company owned by her husband in the pilot project. He questioned why the former DAP veteran did not make the same request to Lim Guan Eng when he was being investigated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over the Penang undersea tunnel project.

“When the then party secretary-general (now DAP chairman) was charged in court, why didn’t Ramasamy (who was then Penang deputy chief minister and a DAP member) make the same claim?

“Why did he change his stance now? Was it because he did not want to offend the party secretary-general at that time?”

“Now that he has joined a non-governmental organization, does he want to impose his power on others?” asked Teo Chee Hean.

It is difficult to understand why Teo mentioned Lim Guan Eng’s name in the context of the Yang fiasco, but if I were to guess, it could very well be a result of the ongoing feud between Lim Guan Eng and Chow Kon Yeow.

When Lim Guan Eng stepped down as Penang Chief Minister and became Malaysia’s Finance Minister, he handed over the post of Chief Minister to Chow Kon Yeow. However, just 22 months after obtaining the post of Finance Minister, Lim Guan Eng lost the post of Finance Minister due to the overthrow of the Pakatan Harapan 1.0 government. Although the Pakatan Harapan government returned to power after the 2022 general election, Lim Guan Eng did not resume the post of Finance Minister or other ministers.

Given that Lim Guan Eng has no government post today, he may be interested in reclaiming his old post as Penang chief minister to maintain his relevance in the party and the country.

However, Lim Guan Eng found it difficult to get back the seat he had given to Zhou Yongkang because Zhou Yongkang had become fond of the seat and refused to give it back.

The problem with gratitude is that we may think people should be grateful to us because we have nurtured them from obscurity to fame, but people often think they have achieved their success on their own merits. The problem of gratitude has affected the relationship between Mahathir and Anwar, and it will affect the relationship between Lim Guan Eng and Zhou Yongkang now and in the future.

In order to regain his seat, Lim Guan Eng has been trying to weaken Zhou’s influence by all means, from complaining Investors from Penang are fleeing to Selangor criticize Penang’s Financial Situation .

With this in mind, perhaps Teo is putting Lim Guan Eng in danger under the guise of defending Yang because she is a supporter of Chew and therefore hopes that if she can divert the attention of the “one-man army” Ramasamy to Lim Guan Eng, he will use his resentment towards DAP to destroy Lim Guan Eng and save Chew.

However, one thing is certain, the more secure Pakatan Harapan’s rule becomes, the greater the chances of DAP’s collapse.

When DAP was being harassed relentlessly by BN, whenever BN had its guns trained on DAP comrades, DAP leaders might have prided themselves on selflessly doing whatever they could, even sacrificing their own well-being, to save any comrade in distress, but now that DAP is in power, I bet RM1.35 that there is one question on every DAP leader’s mind: “What about me?”

It must not have been easy for Lim Guan Eng and Ramasamy to see their old comrades like Chow Kon Yeow and Hannah Ho living so happily or smiling as they went to the bank while they themselves were destitute.

We don’t know why Zhang Nien-jing stood up to defend Hannah in such an irrefutable matter, but if I had to guess, I would say that Zhang Nien-jing did so in the hope that one day, when she and Hannah are in the same situation as today, Hannah will not forget what she did for Hannah today.

“Unless a man is capable of great things, freedom is an irksome burden.”

“Only intense hatred can bring meaning and purpose to an empty life.”

When you are at your peak, you are free, but when you are free, it becomes a burden unless you have the talent to do something with your freedom.

If you don’t have the talent to use your freedom to do anything, then when you are at the top all you can do is to relieve yourself and your family of the burden of your inability to do anything by rewarding yourself and your family with the nation’s wealth, even though you are expected to do a lot.

As you do this, everyone you have betrayed and trampled upon on your path to ascent will find meaning and purpose to their empty lives through harboring an intense hatred for you.

If the Madani government can stay in power until November, it will become the first government to last more than two years since 2018. If the Madani government can stay in power for two years, it will cross a psychological barrier, which will increase its chances of staying in power for a full year.

Once the Madani government is firmly established, it will be more feared by its friends than by its enemies.

From that point on, its enemies may be weakened, but the jealousy of its supporters, the resentment of its former friends, and the tendency of its incompetent leaders (who are bound to soothe their own feelings of worthlessness by using the nation’s wealth to help themselves) may cause it to collapse from within.
