Rev. Fatoma Tommy Jusu, the chief executive officer of Southern Lion Security and Logistics, located on Leicester Road behind the Muslim Brotherhood Secondary School in Freetown, has been accused of operating a private security company without a valid licence.
Pastor Fatormah Tommy Jusu is currently the accused before Magistrate Santigie Bangura of the Second Magistrateโs Court at Pademba Road, under preliminary investigation (PI) on a charge of operating a private security without a licence.
The defendant appeared in court on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, but was refused bail by the current magistrate.
The matter of registration and licensing of private security companies in Sierra Leoneโs Office of National Security (ONS) was given evidence by State Attorney Yusuf Isaac Sesay.
The third prosecution witness, Ms. Musu Rosaline Conteh, said she recalled that on Wednesday, August 14, 2014, she was in her office when an unidentified person complained against the CEO of Southern Lion Security and Logistics for not paying her salary for three months of employment with the company.
She said the complainant then produced a guarantor form with the company’s name, two contact numbers and the company’s address.
The witness further stated that after the complainant left the office, she called a mobile number given on the form provided by the complainant and the person who answered the call was the present accused.
According to the witness, she made up a cover story when she called, saying that she wanted to hire ten security guards. The defendant then said that he was the owner of the security company.
The defendant gave her the address of his company and the two agreed to meet at 10 a.m. on July 5 this year. The witness said that the defendant called her on his mobile phone that day to remind her about the date.
The witness told the court that her office, ONS, organised a team, which she called Integrated Intelligent Security (IIS), which set out to meet him at Model Junction.
Ms. Conte said she told Mr. Jusu that her manager, driver and another officer from the office would meet him at Model Junction. The team set off for Model Junction and within ten minutes they were back with the now accused.
During her conversation with the defendant in her office, she asked the defendant if he was aware of a press release issued by ONS stating that no one could operate a private security service without a valid license issued by ONS. The defendant responded in the affirmative.
The defendant confirmed that he started operating the security company on August 8, 2023, with 14 security personnel and 3 customers.
The witness was cross-examined by the defence lawyer and District Judge Bangura adjourned the case to August 21, 2024 for further hearing.
