Video/Photos: Ten years ago, the worst landslide in U.S. history struck the small town of Oso, Washington. On March 22, 2014, a hillside gave way in the Snohomish County community of Steelhead Haven, destroying Interstate 530, homes and cars and killing 43 people. It was a beautiful Saturday morning in the close-knit community of Oso when the hillside gave way. The community had started the year on a record note, with twice the average rainfall in February and March. But on March 22, 2014, spring was on the way. At 10:37 a.m., a landslide changed the community forever. A rain-soaked hillside near Oso gave way, sending an estimated 18 million tons of sand, moraine and clay into the Steelhead Haven community, destroying more than 30 homes.
