The U.S. Coast Guard officially established the Saipan Maritime Security Force during a ceremony on April 5, 2024 in Saipan. “This significant achievement is a milestone in Coast Guard leadership development and expanded responsibilities, and reflects our unwavering commitment to serving the people of Saipan and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands with unparalleled dedication and excellence,” said Capt. Nicholas Simmons, Commander of U.S. Coast Guard Force Micronesia/Guam and host of the event. Additionally, this move is in line with the department’s strategic goal of providing junior officers with more command opportunities and promoting professional growth and leadership development in the ranks. Prior to becoming the Saipan Maritime Security Force, Lieutenant Justin Miller and his team operated as the Saipan Maritime Security Detachment, demonstrating their commitment to maritime safety, security, and environmental stewardship through a range of impactful operations and initiatives.
