The U.S. Coast Guard Micronesia/Guam Sector rescued 13 people from a distressed vessel approximately 13 nautical miles north of Guam on Sunday. The Coast Guard announced the success of the search and rescue operation in a press release, saying it was a testament to the power of collaboration and emphasized the importance of partnerships and the critical role of proper maritime safety measures. “Even in good weather conditions, having 13 people aboard a 23-foot boat can be dangerous. Our seamless collaboration with Guam Fire and Rescue and other agencies ensured a quick and effective response. This incident highlights the need for reliable communication equipment and life jackets on board as they are very useful in emergency situations,” said Lt. Chelsea Garcia, the search and rescue mission coordinator for the operation, in a press release.
