VIDEO: Police Chief Stephen Ignacio said during a speech to the Guam Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday that there have been three fentanyl-related deaths on the island this year. Ignacio began his speech to chamber members at a meeting at the Hilton Guam Resort and Spa with a topic he called sobering and ended it with some good news. “Fentanyl. These numbers are sobering for our little community,” Ignacio said. Fentanyl use has increased rapidly across the country and is considered the worst opioid in the current opioid crisis. Ignacio talked about two fentanyl overdose cases in 2022, in which one victim died and the other recovered. He said there was one death attributed to fentanyl in 2023. At the time, he said he was already trying to get a head start on the latest drug of abuse, Narcan, which can help people recover from a fentanyl overdose.
