Guam Fire Department firefighters battled a fire on Cocos Island Tuesday afternoon. According to GFD spokesperson Nick Garrido, at 10:28 a.m., the E911 center received multiple calls regarding a possible fire on Cocos Island. “GFD rescue and firefighters are currently on their way in a GFD rescue boat to conduct an assessment to determine their course of action,” Garrido told local media at 11:16 a.m. Garrido also said the Department of Agriculture’s Aquatic and Wildlife Division would use its boats to bring the department’s Forestry Division to the scene to assist with the fire. A few hours later, Garrido updated the news that the fire on Cocos Island was under control at 1:45 p.m. While the GFD secured the scene, Garrido added that the Forestry Division would “remain on scene for a few more hours as a precaution.”
