This week, with Independence Day in the U.S., local authorities are reminding the community during the celebration that while consumer-grade fireworks are legal, dangers still exist. “The issue we are facing right now is the wholesale and resale of fireworks,” said GFD Lt. Nick Garrido as the Guam Fire Department continues to refine the specifics of the new law. Garrido said their stance is in line with the National Fire Protection Association’s standards, which warn that fireworks are unsafe in the hands of consumers. GFD summer intern Elias Chang shared some important safety tips. “The only safe way to watch fireworks is to attend a professional show.
