An elderly couple is lucky to be alive after escaping their home engulfed in flames early Sunday morning. The Guam Fire Department responded to the fire at Chalan Fago in Dededo at 6:02 a.m., where the elderly couple lived in a wood and tin house. “Upon arrival, the fire department discovered that the house, which is approximately 50 feet by 50 feet, was completely engulfed. The fire was under control within 20 minutes,” GFD spokesperson Nick Garrido reported, one hour after firefighters arrived on the scene. Garrido confirmed that both occupants managed to escape the fire. “An elderly woman was injured while trying to escape. She sustained minor injuries and was transported to GRMC,” Garrido said, adding that the man was not injured.
