The Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management tested the new Mobile All-Hazards Siren System on Wednesday at Paupau Beach and Garapan Fishery Base in San Roque. HSEM Public Information Officer Bernard Villagomez said the All-Hazards System can also be activated remotely from the Emergency Operations Center on Capitol Hill or any other location. “The mobile sirens can be set up in 15 minutes. We are testing some areas to make sure the warning message can be communicated to the islanders,” Villagomez said. “We have two mobile all-hazard sirens, one of which we are testing. As of now, these sirens are only used on Saipan,” he added. According to Villagomez, the sirens can be heard up to a mile or a mile and a half away.
