Photo: Firefighters from the Northern Marianas Islands are heading to California this week to assist the state in its response to devastating wildfires. Saipan’s 29 firefighters met with Northern Marianas Governor Arnold Palacios on Wednesday for a briefing and well-wishes before departing on Thursday and Friday. The Northern Marianas Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department told KUAM News they may be helping with the Park Fire in Northern California, the fourth-largest wildfire in the state’s history. The fire has destroyed 542 structures and caused thousands of residents to flee their homes since it began on July 24. We wish you all a safe journey and our thoughts are with those affected.
