Deep down a secluded road behind the Didido Sports Complex, a new illegal dump is causing concern for the Guam Fire Department. Firefighters from the Didido Fire Station responded to the area last week. The dump was filled with cars, buses and tons of trash, calling for those responsible to be held accountable. Fire Lt. Nick Garrido, a GFD spokesman, said it’s a familiar stretch of road. It’s a hot spot for grass fires and the burning of abandoned cars. “This is pipeline road that goes to St. Paul Christian School. We’ve responded to that area several times over the past few years,” Garrido said. But the trash is new, he said, adding, “We’ve reported it to the Guam Environmental Protection Agency and the Didido Mayor’s office as well.” Illegal dumps like this are a safety hazard.
