Nigeria Customs agents in Kwara State have intercepted 1,153 packages of marijuana concealed in artificial compartments and other parts of a truck.
It was gathered that the seizure was made after Customs officials in the state intercepted a truck with registration number T-25750-LA on July 3, 2024, at Yamboa axis in Bukuro, Baruteng Local Government Area.

The Auditor-General, Faith Ojeifo, the Regional Controller of Customs in Kwara State, who disclosed this to the public while briefing the media on Wednesday, said the seized marijuana was concealed in artificial compartments and other parts of a DAF truck.
She added that the DAF truck valued at N21.5 million would be forfeited to the Federal Government in accordance with Section 250 of the Customs Act, 2023.
Ojefo said: “During the search, the driver realised that our officers’ keen eyes had spotted the hidden secret and he abandoned the car and fled into the bushes to evade arrest, which attracted the attention of our officers.
“The DAF truck valued at N21.5 million will be forfeited to the Federal Government in accordance with Section 250 of the Customs Act, 2023, which states that any vessel, aircraft, vehicle or any conveyance found sealed or altered in any manner to conceal goods will be forfeited.
“The driver abandoned the vehicle and fled into the bushes to evade arrest, which came to the attention of our operatives.
“The truck was immediately transferred to the Ilorin Command where the items were discovered after a 100 per cent physical check.
“To deceive our police, they have come up with ways to smuggle goods using modified vehicles and motorcycles and even cleverly built trucks with fake bodies and bottoms to hide dangerous drugs, demonstrating their dexterity.
“The DAF truck was immediately transferred to the Ilorin Command in accordance with Section 226a and b of the Customs Service Act, 2023. After a 100% medical examination, it was discovered that 1,153 packets of marijuana were concealed in the truck.”
