Culture and local talent require a TV license – Swaziland Television

MATATA – Television licence fees need to be paid in order to promote Swazi culture and local talent.

To promote local talent and Swazi culture, funding is needed and only the Swazi nation can make this happen, said Nomcebo Malinga, Senior Marketing Communications and Brand Officer (SMCBO) of Swaziland Television.

In a joint effort to promote responsible television viewership, the Swaziland Television Authority (ESTVA) Marketing and Communications team together with the Television Licensing Department launched a campaign in Matata.

The campaign launched Thursday and ends on Friday, June 28, with the door-to-door campaign beginning 10 days ago in Big Bend.

Speaking about the TV licence fee, Malinga elaborated on the importance of TV licence compliance and its impact on sustaining local broadcasting. She said: “The TV licence is more than just a legal requirement; it is an important contribution to the ecosystem of the broadcasting industry in Swaziland.”

Malinga believes that people should pay the TV licence fee for the following reasons:

Premium content: By paying the television licence fee, viewers directly support the creation and delivery of premium content.

From news and entertainment to educational programming, ESTVA relies on these funds to continue producing engaging programming.

Local Broadcasting: ESTVA plays a vital role in promoting Swaziland’s culture, traditions and local talent.

TV Licence ensures that all citizens have access to this valuable service.

When asked how to obtain a TV licence, she said: “It is easy to obtain a TV licence. The TV licence fee is €15 per month, totalling €180 per year per TV or similar device.”

Additional note: For devices capable of receiving TV signals, you have to pay 50 euros per device per year. There are various payment methods,” said Malinga.
