Paris – Boxer Erislandy Álvarez won Cuba’s first and only boxing gold medal of the Olympics by defeating Frenchman Sofiane Oumiha by split decision (3-2) in the final of the -63.5 kg category.

The Cuban boxer Erislandy Álvarez, who weighs 63.5 kg, is the last Antillean boxer to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

He earned his ticket to the French capital at the 2024 pre-Olympic boxing tournament in Bangkok, Thailand, on May 31 this year.
