In his speech, Councillor Vando Saint-Villiers, Chairman of the Committee for the Promotion of the Guidelines, stressed that the Ethical Guidelines for Judges is not just a simple administrative document, but a guarantee of the integrity and credibility of judges. The Haitian judicial system is crucial to public trust and the rule of law.
Me Evens Fils, representative of the Haitian Bar Association to the CSPJ, stressed the transformative importance of this guide, which he believes is not only a reference but also a tool for transformation, while reminding every judge that his actions, both on and off the bench, are monitored by those he is supposed to serve. “We have a responsibility to restore trust by example” He declared.
For his part, the consultant, Kavis Jean, recalled the importance of the document in the numerous efforts aimed at strengthening the integrity within the judiciary, noting that it was time to provide judges with a text to regulate their professional conduct. As for the representative of UNODC, Adrian Banu, he reiterated the organization’s strong support for the CSPJ.
In his statement, Mr. Banou clarified that judicial reform in Haiti was not only possible but necessary and that UNODC was determined to support Haiti in its quest for a more transparent, honest and efficient judicial system that met international standards.
