Camere College has been open since Monday. The school had been closed since May 14 and some facilities had been downgraded, and students and teachers returned to campus on Wednesday this week with relief.
There were no maths or history and geography classes at Camere College in Noumea on Wednesday morning. Instead, students attended sports, cinema or board game workshops. For two and a half months, their college has been closed due to abuses.
“ We are sure The focus of the workshops is not on learning, so as not to rush students and take them back to where they were in life, back to university”, explains Professor Pascal Monnier.
At the start of the school year, a quarter of the college’s 370 students were missing. Some young people from Lifou and Mare were attending school on the islands. But some from Tindou, Montraville and even Pierre-Roncette were unable to take school buses or public transport.
“We are working hard to find solutions for these young people and we have contacted neighborhood agencies and associations to help them solve their morning and evening transportation problems. ” assured Vice-President Rosine Mollé.
Despite the extensive damage, all or nearly all of the college’s services remain operational.”In the South Province, we have redeveloped the infirmary and the medical-social center on one side and the classrooms on the other (…) The canteen was completely burned down and a room is being redeveloped for school catering” continued the Academy’s president, François Oduro.
After August 19 (the end date of the August holidays in New Caledonia), secondary school students will return to the canteen and resume school activities.
