The Criollos de Caguas team survived a close match and they left Osos de Manati with the desire to celebrate the championship at home, winning again against the visitors in the sixth game of the National Super Basketball (BSN) finals series, ending with 122-121.
With this victory, Caguas tied the series at 3-3 and will play for the championship at home next Friday. However, in this final series, no local team was able to win at home.
Caguas led 17-7 in the first quarter, but Norris Cole scored 13 points in the first ten minutes of the game, and the Bears fell behind the visitors by one point, 23-22. Eleven of Cole’s 13 points in the first quarter were consecutive.
The two teams were tied in the second quarter, and the score was tied at 41 before halftime.
After returning, the Bears completely dominated the Creoles in the third quarter, holding the Creoles to just eight points with seven minutes already played. The Creoles scored a total of 19 points in the third quarter, while the Bears scored 24 points.
In the fourth quarter, the key was the Bears’ offense, and Jihwan Jackson’s multiple three-pointers in the final minutes inspired the team to victory. Similarly, Norris Cole and Tyler Davos were also the protagonists in the final minutes of the game for Manati.
With 1:11 left, Caguas led, Manati led 87-83. Cagüeño Cuco López made a three-pointer to make it 86-87 with less than a minute left. Then, Manati’s Ethan Thompson made a layup to make it 89-86.
With 22 seconds left, Caguas made two free throws to put Creole within one point at 89-88. Jackson then made two more free throws to make it 91-88 with 14 seconds left.
Criollos de Caguas’ Travis Trice once again made a great play in the final seconds to tie the score at 91 and force overtime.
In overtime, Trice and Cole exchanged three-pointers to help the team’s offense. With 1 minute left in the game, Caguas led 104-103.
Alex Morales made a three-pointer with 30 seconds left, tying the game at 106. Although the Manatee Bears had the final possession, they were unable to execute and the game went into a second overtime.
With 2 minutes and 52 seconds left in the second overtime, the two teams exchanged shots and the score was still tied at 112. With less than a minute left in the game, Caguas led 117-116, but Jackson’s shot changed the lead again, and Manati led 118-117.
With 24.6 seconds left in the game, Manati led 120-117, and Travis Trice made a free throw to make the score 120-118. Then Jackson made a free throw to make the score 121-118. Then Travis Trice made two free throws and Caguas was one point behind 121-120.
With 5.2 seconds left, Akil Mitchell made two free throws to give the Creoles a 122-121 lead.
Ultimately, with the Bears unable to execute, Caguas ended the game 122-121.
Travis Trice scored 32 points and Akil Mitchell, both of Criollos de Caguas, added 25. For the Bears, Norris Cole scored 35 points and Jihwan Jackson added 32 points.
Game 7 will be held on Friday in Caguas.
