P-au-P, August 29, 2024 (AlterPresse) – Eighteen people were killed on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, during an operation against armed groups in Bel-Air, identified as bandits, which spread terror in Solino and its surroundings (downtown Port-au-Prince), Pierre Espérance, executive director of the National Network for the Defense of Human Rights (Rnddh), revealed to the AlterPresse/AlterRadio platform.
Noting that several of the bandits allegedly killed were in possession of firearms, Rnddh called on the PNH to continue taking precautionary measures to prevent civilians from becoming victims in these operations.
Three (3) PNH agents suffered minor injuries during the operation on Tuesday, August 27, 2024. The police informed in a note that they are still receiving the required care in the case.
The Rnddh described the criminal acts of the armed gangsters as acts of terror, all of whom were in danger of death if their weapons were not handed over to the police.
The human rights organization stressed that security must be Haiti’s top priority at this time.
In a statement, the Haitian National Police Union (Spnh-17) Police agencies are required to take firm measures to carry out operations within weekscompletely dismantling the armed gang centers one after another in Haiti.
Spnh-17 asked the National Party’s interim director general, Rameau Normil, to find a better strategy to organize actions to reduce the risk of police officers becoming victims.
