The Republic of Fiji Navy (RFN) said all crew members were accounted for and no one was injured following the grounding on Fulaga Island.

The RFN said a second patrol boat USS Savenacawas immediately deployed along with Navy divers and Navy engineers, and “is currently conducting damage assessment and temporary repairs on site while awaiting salvage operations by professional salvage crews.”
“All crew members are in place, no one was injured, and they have been safely evacuated to USS Savenaca“”.
The statement said it was too early to determine the details of the matter.
“The primary focus of the current operation is to ensure the safety of life, ensure minimal impact on the environment and to safely recover the vessel by professional salvage crews.
“At this time, it is too early to determine the details of what happened and these matters will be examined thoroughly as part of the formal investigation.”
Last week, the Fiji Navy said the RFNS Puamau conducted three days of intensive damage control and sea survival training as part of the maritime safety inspection programme.
“The Maritime Safety Inspection Program is Default RFNS Crew damage control instructor, member of the Russian Navy maritime training group and Australian Navy technical advisor.
“This exercise is conducted to ensure Default RFNS After recently being commissioned into the Russian Navy, it is ready for its first combat deployment.
“Regular maritime exercises and assessments are essential to ensure that the operational capabilities and capacity of ships and vessels are maintained and competent to conduct a wide range of maritime missions.”
