Council ‘delighted’ to work with community to benefit Pedigo

Donegal County Council said it was pleased to be working with the community of Pedigo to maintain and restore Border Village.

A council spokesman said: “Donegal County Council maintains and repairs public areas within existing resources, but its priorities do not always align with the wishes of resident groups.”

“DCC is pleased to work with local groups to maximise benefits for the local community.”

Local man Michael McAndrews founded a GoFundMe page So far, more than €2,300 has been raised. The money is used to mow the lawn and to paint and repair fences, bollards, bins and street furniture.

Mr McAndrews posted on their GoFundMe page: “The village of Pedigo, on the border of County Donegal and County Fermanagh, is in desperate need of a thorough clean-up.”

“The Diamond is overgrown with weeds, bollards, fencing, benches and bins need repairing and painting, and the road signs are out of date. We have tried several times to get the council to take responsibility, but to no avail. Now we have to take matters into our own hands.”

He stressed that any funds raised would be used to improve the aesthetics of the village, with any excess going towards ongoing maintenance.
