The Capital Region Spartans welcomed this Thursday their new coach, the Argentine Juan Manuel Cordoba, who takes over the position left by the Venezuelan Carl Herrera.

The strategist shared his impressions and expectations in an interview with the Capital News team, assuring that the team will start adding wins as soon as possible.

“I’m happy with the reception, I think it’s a very good organisation and obviously when changes happen it’s because things aren’t going well but we want to get recognition and wins as soon as possible,” he said.

The Argentine said when watching Sparta for the first time that all the pieces had to fit in order to row in the same direction

“If we’re on the same page and put the team first, we can definitely do a better job and have a better chance of winning,” he said.

Cordoba, who has extensive experience with South American basketball, said: “Basketball in Venezuela feels different than in the south, which is probably the result of the players’ athleticism, ball-handling skills and how much they believe in their own individual possibilities.”

Finally, the new strategist said the team was in good spirits and received a good reception.

“The challenge is to ensure these qualities serve the team. I feel a warm welcome from the boys and we are all eager to achieve that chemistry as soon as possible,” he concluded.

The Sparta team in the first group of the 2024 SPB currently has a record of 4 wins and 8 losses, 16 points, and is currently ranked eighth in the standings.
