Surinamese entrepreneur Samuel ‘Slimmie’ Kuik decided to support the Suriname National Democratic Party (NDP) in March, but he became disappointed with NDP chairperson Jenny Simons and rejoined the political party Alternative 2020 (A20).

“I was in A20. I came home and they accepted me. There were some keks, we made mistakes, I made mistakes, I admitted my mistakes. They admitted their mistakes, and we shook hands,” Cook said on D-TV Express.

In July, the entrepreneur said he would give Simmons a month to invite him to join the NDP. Now that month has passed, the Purple Party has not yet offered any assistance. Cook said he had hope in Simmons, but he was shocked when he saw how she surrounded herself with parasites, criminals and robbers.

“How can I do business with the NDP if Faizal Abdul Ghafoor was elected to the board and he was being bullied by Bootle over the alleged lack of funds in the sports ministry? How can you find someone like Akiemboto who didn’t get a good price for the Staatsolie dam? I want to follow the people, I want to follow in the footsteps of those who left a legacy,” the entrepreneur said.

In July, Cook also said one of his possible options could also be NPS. However, he decided not to do so.

“You know why I didn’t choose NPS? Because NPS never went into production. Because of the NPS, they built a failed refinery. Do you know where land grabbing started? Land grabbing in Suriname started with former minister Jong Tjien Fa and Somohardjo. Front launched NPS. Because the Venetians are president,” said the entrepreneur.

Another reason he no longer wanted to join the New Democracy was that the party had no plan to address agricultural production issues. When he inquired about this plan, he was only told the name of former LVV minister Soeresh Algoe. Cook wondered why Algoe’s name was mentioned, since the former minister had failed and was therefore kicked out prematurely by Bouterse.
