Controversy over high school Arabic test

Yesterday, Senior High School Certificate students took Arabic language tests in public schools as part of the first semester examinations for the 2023-2024 academic year, and there was widespread controversy among students and those who had seen the test about the level of the test. The range was acceptable for average students, with two questions set for excellent students, and some of them felt that it contained surprising questions.
Secondary school principals told Al Arabiya that they were not aware of any complaints regarding problems with Arabic language tests and stressed that the policy for setting the tests includes providing one or two questions in the test for top students to showcase the abilities of each student.
They added that Arabic teachers conducted extensive revisions before the exams and that, in addition to the lessons on the night of the exams, they also tried to provide great help to students, in addition to providing “intensive courses” and “experimental tests”. The Qatar Education” platform assessed students’ academic qualifications before the exams, noting that it was common to have different opinions on some exams.
After the test, the student sample confirmed that the Arabic questions were acceptable for the average student, explaining that the questions were clear and direct, except for two questions that were somewhat ambiguous.
The students explained that the exam time was sufficient, two hours, with more than one answer and review, and many students dropped out midway, adding that the exam consisted of a memory question, two literature questions, grammar questions, and reading and writing questions.
Students felt that the test was long compared to the lab test, but they said the questions were very consistent with the lab test, excluding a large percentage of students from receiving a final grade.
On the other hand, after the Arabic test, the hashtag “#Insurmountable_Arabic_Test” topped the list of transactions on Qatar’s “X” platform, with students and parents expressing their dissatisfaction with the Dhad language test, especially the reading questions and stories.
Students wondered what the purpose of asking the story of “stolen shirt” was. Student Abdul Rahman Al Kasiri said: “This is an impossible test, I don’t know how to ask these questions in public. We are in the final year!!?”
Student Sayyid Hamad said: “I hope you can take care of us in terms of grades and marking, although I did not find any problems in the passed tests, but why is Arabic so difficult?”
On the other hand, student Al Reem said: “Guys, this topic is not sweet, and I asked the question in an unnatural way, but it made her feel that you wanted the answer written next to the question, so you can say that I can’t understand what you want more because it is not in front of you, and there is no problem with the basis of my essay or the analysis of my essay. What could be easier than this?
The exams will end today (Thursday) with students of science and technology taking the physics exam and students of literature taking the geography exam. The Secondary School Certificate exams began on Sunday, December 10, with students taking exams in subjects such as Mathematics, English, Islamic Education, and the optional subjects, History, Biology, Information Technology, each according to their track.
In past exams, students complained that the difficulty of the history exam was described as insurmountable, which frustrated them, some students felt that the biology exam contained difficult questions at an intermediate level, while some students described the difficulty of the chemistry exam as particularly insurmountable, and the computer test as incomplete.
