Construction begins on 282-unit apartment development at Imperial Harbor in Weehawken

One of the last vacant lots along the Hudson River in Weehawken was foreclosed two years ago, but now construction activity is in full swing as a new mixed-use complex is planned to fill a large void on the riverfront.

WHK Waterfront Urban Renewal LLC recently announced that construction has officially begun on 1800 Avenue, its luxury waterfront development at Port Imperial in Weehawken.

The 3.65-acre site was once owned by Hongkun USA, which had permission to build a mixed-use complex with 282 apartments. The company soon encountered various obstacles. Financial difficulties and was foreclosed in 2022. questionthe new ownership group has secured $210 million in financing from Benefit Street Partners to move the project forward.

The total investment in the project is $313 million and is still planned to be built according to Handel Architects Designed itFeatures of the future building include floor-to-ceiling glass and more than 45,000 square feet of amenities such as indoor and outdoor pools, a fitness center and spa, basketball courts, a golf simulator, a private screening room and a pet center.

“We are excited to unveil 1800, a brand new bar building with a unique design featuring floor-to-ceiling windows with curved edges,” said David Wei, CEO of WHK Waterfront Urban Renewal, in a statement. “The all-glass curtain wall not only provides stunning panoramic views of the New York City skyline, but also creates a modern and sleek aesthetic that sets this building apart.”

Plaza Construction, one of the largest management and contracting firms in the United States, will serve as general contractor for the project, which is expected to be completed by the summer of 2026.

The community surrounding the future Port Imperial 1800 complex features over 2.5 miles of waterfront. Christie’s International Real Estate has signed on as the exclusive sales and marketing agent for all units in the upcoming Port Imperial 1800 Avenue complex.
