Fiji is seeking cooperation with China in many areas.

These include strengthening sustainable aquaculture practices, marine and ecological protection, knowledge sharing and capacity building.

Nepal’s Prime Minister Sitthiveni Rabuka stressed this last week during a visit to Ninghai village in Ningde, Fujian province.

He said Fiji was interested in exploring cooperation opportunities with China in areas such as ecological protection, eco-friendly aquaculture and fish farming to boost the development of its fisheries sector.

Mr Rabuka said coastal communities and the fisheries sector would benefit greatly by learning more and implementing marine fish farming projects.

He also visited the Ningde Poverty Alleviation and Development Exhibition Hall in Ningde City, Fujian Province.

“Fiji is committed to tackling poverty through specific initiatives of the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Protection, which include the Poverty Benefit and Social Pension Scheme, Care and Protection and the Food Voucher Scheme,” Mr Rabuka said.

He added that Fiji could learn a lot from China’s tailor-made poverty alleviation strategies to improve the livelihoods of local communities.
