Libreville, Tuesday, August 6, 2024 (Infos Gabon) – This was the meaning of the ceremony held last Monday, August 5, at the Libreville Town Hall by the Heads of State and the Special Representatives from Libreville, Port-Gentil, Franceville and Oyem, in the presence of several personalities.
General Brice Clotaire Origi Nguema, who wants the city to remain clean, has handed over nearly 6,000 garbage containers of different capacities and about 30 trash cans to these local authorities. These tools provided to them will be used to beautify these areas to meet the requirements of a modern city. The President of the Republic said that this action will continue throughout the country.
In his speech, the Transitional President reminded municipal officials of the importance of responsibility and awareness for sustainable development.
“Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals requires clean, beautiful, modern cities that bring the Gabonese people closer to the prosperity they aspire to,” said General Brice Clotaire Olgie Nguema.
The Head of State was not oblivious to the unjust behaviour of some citizens who littered, clogging drains and causing floods, and called for strict measures.
“I invite the special deputies to consider imposing fines on those who do not comply with the instructions for garbage collection and those who uncivilizedly continue to throw garbage on the streets,” he added, while welcoming the efforts of all those working on waste management. He arrived at a garbage bin at the town hall as a symbol of encouragement.
Let us remember that this action helps to eliminate unsanitary conditions and improve the living conditions of the population. We note that the President of the Republic has asked municipalities to raise awareness before punishing. That is, education must precede sanctions, which is a key step for the success of this action.
