The clashes broke out when some supporters of the Palestinian side in the Gaza conflict staged a protest outside the Adastola synagogue in the American city.
Videos on social media showed police trying to intervene between the two sides before declaring the gathering unlawful and clearing the area around the synagogue.
Although the protesters did not remain in front of the synagogue, they continued to clash near the religious building.
