The city says it is considering a collection approach to collect unpaid parking tickets.
The city is already looking for ways to improve collection methods, and a report presented to the City Council Transportation Committee on Tuesday looked at using collect mechanism.

“We’re going to take that information and determine if this can be done in-house or if it makes more sense to turn it over to a third-party agency?” said Matt Grazier, the city’s community standards director.
The report shows that as of the end of 2021, the total amount of unpaid parking tickets exceeded $6.1 million.
As of April this year, more than 12,000 car owners owed two or more fines and faced having their vehicles locked, towed and impounded.
If the city decides to go the gamut, it says it will get feedback from the city, especially from out-of-town criminals.
“Out-of-towners may start seeing more letters from the city or third-party debt collection agencies,” Glazer said.
The city hopes to have more clarity on its approach to collecting unpaid tickets sometime this fall.
