In these last three incidents, he was arrested and tried for attempted murder of women, sexual abuse and minor serious injury. Prosecutor Gustavo Pirrello asked for a 21-year prison sentence for these three reasons. The defense asked for not guilty verdicts for the sexual offenses and classified the other two incidents as injury.
Judge Horacio Cardil ultimately took both positions. He found that sexual abuse and assault had occurred, but that the severity of the knife attack was not enough to constitute an attempt to kill the woman. As such, he sentenced the suspect to nine years and ten months in prison on Tuesday morning. Additionally, he was declared a repeat offender, so he will not be able to receive prison benefits.
