Archangel, RussiaMarch 30 (Xinhua) — Chinese Vice Premier Wang Yang attended the Fourth International Arctic Forum on Wednesday and Thursday, expressing China’s willingness to play a greater role in Arctic development.

In a speech at the opening ceremony of the two-day event, Wang Yi said China is an important stakeholder in Arctic affairs.

We should strengthen Arctic environmental protection, conduct in-depth scientific exploration of the Arctic, utilize Arctic resources legally and rationally, and jointly maintain peace and stability in the Arctic region.

Wang Yi expressed that China is willing to discuss with all countries the possibility of conducting joint exploration and jointly create a bright future for the Arctic region.

Russian President Vladimir PutinFinnish President Sauli Niinistö and Icelandic President Gudni Johannesson spoke at the International Astronautical Federation’s general meeting on Thursday.

This year’s forum brought together more than 2,000 government officials, business leaders and senior experts from nearly 30 countries, including USACanada, Denmark and Norway.

On Wednesday, Wang Yi and Russian Deputy Prime Minister Rogozin co-chaired a meeting of the China-Russia Prime Ministers’ Regular Meeting Committee.

Both sides highly valued the China-US comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.

Wang Yi and Rogozin exchanged views on strengthening cooperation in the Arctic, nuclear energy, agriculture, civil aviation and other fields.
