Geely Automobile (00175)’s high-end electric vehicle (EV) brand ZEEKR plans to enter the Japanese market next year and set up showrooms in Tokyo and Kansai as early as this year. It is expected to first launch the SUV “X” and MPV “009”.
In an interview with the Nihon Keizai Shimbun, Chen Yu, vice president of Zeekr, said that the company will begin to handle procedures such as Japanese safety standards certification in order to launch new cars in Japan; before launching the vehicles, showrooms will be set up in Tokyo and Kansai as early as this year to improve the sales network.
The company began to expand its overseas markets last year, starting with Europe. It has entered about 30 countries and regions so far, with the goal of expanding to about 50 countries and regions by the end of this year.
