Video footage circulating on Chinese social media has captured a strange phenomenon causing concern among car owners as balloon-like bulges appear on the bodies of cars with paint protection films applied, a phenomenon Chinese media attributed to the country’s record high temperatures, which have recently caused these films to deform. Due to the shape of these bulges, the Chinese are calling the damaged cars “pregnant cars.”
One user shared a video of several of the cars on social media and wrote: “No kidding! Chinese-made cars can ‘hold on’ when the weather is really hot.”
Some mocked the “Chinese car”, others pointed out that it was actually a German car in China, and a third party responded that it was a fake protective film.
Reports say China’s current high temperatures have exposed the prevalence of counterfeit paint protection films on the Chinese market, while cars with genuine films are not affected by this problem.
