China’s Made-in-China Beer Festival: How the Replicas Differ from the Originals – Economy

The Qingdao Beer Festival is the largest beer festival in Asia, and there’s no need to hide from Munich’s Oktoberfest. But not everything that looks German here is actually true.

Last weekend Oktoberfest In Qingdao, eastern China, the band in the Tsingtao beer tent played their final song, the theme song of a hit 90s TV series. The romantic scenes of the show, along with lyrics for those who weren’t quite sure, were displayed on a screen behind the musicians. On the beer stools in front of the stage, the male guests were shirtless and sweaty. They drank beer, cried along to rock ballads, and fanned each other against the sweltering air.
