Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, August 23 (Reporter Chen Cong) The leaders of China and African countries will hold a summit in Beijing in early September. All parties expect that this summit will point out the direction for strengthening bilateral cooperation and promoting Africa’s independent and sustainable development.
Under the framework of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation and the Belt and Road Initiative, China and Africa have continued to make solid progress in cooperation in areas such as industry, agriculture, and health, demonstrating the unique resilience and vitality of China-Africa relations, improving people’s well-being, and promoting industrialization in Africa, the continent with the highest concentration of developing countries in the world.
Recent data highlights the strong momentum of China-Africa relations. China has been Africa’s largest trading partner for 15 consecutive years, with bilateral trade reaching a record high of $282.1 billion last year. African agricultural exports to China have grown for seven consecutive years. In the first half of this year alone, China imported $60.1 billion worth of goods from Africa, up 14% year-on-year.
China is one of the major sources of foreign investment in Africa. By the end of 2023, China’s direct investment in Africa has exceeded US$40 billion. According to statistics from the Ministry of Commerce, Chinese companies have created 1.1 million jobs in Africa in the past three years.
China has also promoted the development and transformation of Africa’s industrial chain through capacity cooperation, technology transfer, talent training and other means. According to the actual needs of African countries, China has trained more than 220,000 talents of various types for African countries, enhancing the independent development capabilities of African countries.
China-Africa agricultural cooperation has flourished, achieving fruitful results in technical assistance and agricultural expert training, transfer of advanced agricultural technology, and construction of agricultural parks, contributing to the modernization of African agriculture.
China’s hybrid rice technology has helped Madagascar, Liberia and other countries increase rice production. Chinese mushroom grass, known as the “magic grass”, has been successfully planted and promoted in the Central African Republic, Rwanda, South Africa and other countries, contributing to increasing local people’s income and promoting green development.
China advocates win-win cooperation and strives to combine its own development with that of Africa and closely integrate the interests of the Chinese and African peoples. Relying on the advantages of the world’s second largest economy in industry, investment and infrastructure construction, China cooperates with many African countries to build railways, ports, roads, industrial parks and energy projects to promote the industrialization process of the African continent.
Developing solidarity and cooperation with African countries has always been the cornerstone of China’s diplomacy. The saying “a friend in need is a friend indeed” aptly describes China-Africa cooperation, which is based on mutual respect and mutual support, aims to achieve common development, mutual benefit and win-win results, and has brought tangible benefits to the Chinese and African people.
China-Africa cooperation has an unbreakable foundation of friendship. In the process of building a China-Africa community with a shared future at a higher level, China-Africa cooperation will surely reach a new level and help African countries achieve independent and sustainable development.
