Changes in the way the Tax Bureau issues driver’s licenses


The Revenue Authority of Jamaica (TAJ) wishes to inform the public that it has implemented several new measures for the issuance and collection of driver licences, while the Authority will continue to take necessary measures to provide its usual services while adhering to public health and safety guidelines.

The new rules for renewal and collection of TAJ driver’s licenses came into effect on Monday, May 18, 2020, and will remain in effect until further notice from the Authority.

Customers who have paid their driver licence fees will need to go to the tax office where the payment was made and place the following documents in a sealed envelope and deposit them in the document drop box for processing:

Completed driver’s license application form (F7) (with phone number).
Copy of receipt
Copy of expired driver’s license
Passport size photo (2×2 inches, taken no more than 6 months ago).
In addition, personnel must be delivered according to the following schedule:









Payment Date Return date
March 16 – 31 May 18-22
March 23 – April 3 May 25-29
April 6-17 June 1-5
April 20 – May 1 June 8-12
May 4 – May 15 June 22-26



Drivers who want to renew their driver’s license must now take a passport-sized photo (2×2 inches, taken no more than 6 months ago) and complete the driver’s license application form (F7). Once customers pay the required fee, they will be instructed to submit their documents for processing.

New driver licence applicants who have been notified to collect their licence can go to the relevant tax office with their learner licence and/or valid ID, a passport-sized photograph (2×2 inches, taken no more than 6 months ago) to complete the application form (F7). Customers will be instructed to submit the required documents for processing after paying the required fee.

The public is also requested to note that effective Monday, May 18, 2020, the processing of new valid driver licenses will only be carried out on Tuesdays and Thursdays of each week, with the following schedule:

New driver licences issued by the Island Transport Authority (ITA) in February 2020 will be issued from May 2020
New driver licences issued by the Island Transport Authority (ITA) in March 2020 will be issued from June 2020
Alternatively, drivers applying for a replacement driver’s license can go to any tax office with a passport-sized photograph (2×2 inches, taken no more than 6 months ago), a copy of the expired driver’s license (if any), a completed driver’s license application form (F7) and a replacement driver’s license application form. Customers will be instructed to submit the required documents for processing after paying the required fees.
