WICHITA, Kan.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Textron Aviation The second test flight was announced as a success Cessna Citation Ascend (P1), while building momentum for certification of the new Citation business jet. This flight milestone comes after the Ascend prototype completed its first flight in 2023, making the P1 aircraft the first compliance production test aircraft. The Citation Ascend business jet was introduced at the 2023 European Business Aviation Conference and Exhibition (EBACE) and is expected to enter service in 2025.

The first flight of the P1, commanded by Michael Bradfield and Maurice Girard, lasted one hour and 24 minutes, reaching a maximum altitude of 13,500 feet and a maximum speed of 308 knots. The aircraft will be used in a flight test program, primarily for systems testing, including propulsion, human factors, environmental controls and avionics.

The Citation Ascend flight test certification program plans to complete certification testing on two test articles: the prototype and the P1. To date, the program has accumulated more than 400 flight hours.
