Md Abdullah Al Mamun of Bombay Television (BTV) has been awarded a certificate of appreciation for his contribution and services to Asiavision, the international news exchange arm of the Asian Broadcasting Union (ABU).
The speakers were Dr Md Jahangir Alam, Director of Bangladesh Television (BTV) and Deborah Steele, Director of News at ABU.
The award is a recognition of Mamun’s professionalism, news judgement and long-term commitment to ATV and the role the platform plays in promoting international understanding.
BTV presented Mamun with the certificate at the three-day ABU journalism seminar held in Dhaka from June 3 to 5 on how to produce news as per international standards, as BTV prepares to launch new programmes on BTV World.
Malaysian media personality and former Astro Awani editor-in-chief Kamarul Bahrin Bin Haron provided additional industry knowledge and advice.
The workshop was attended by journalists, producers, videographers and graphic designers. Topics discussed included BTV World’s value proposition for international audiences, the importance of context and relationships in maximizing audience engagement, ways to ensure the format is sustainable and allow the team to focus on priority content, and the importance of mitigating the risk of disinformation. The workshop focused on the practical application of key principles, and participants produced four videos on aspects of life in Dhaka that sparked interest among international audiences.
