Yemen’s Central Bank Deputy Governor Dr. Mohammed Omar Banaja today, Wednesday, in the temporary capital of Aden, began destroying all denominations of local banknotes that are unfit for circulation.
The destruction of waste currency notes of all denominations is carried out as per a specific schedule.
The process of destroying uncirculated banknotes is the first since the decision was made in 2016 to move the central bank to the temporary capital of Aden and introduce a modern automated system.
The move is part of the Central Bank of Yemen’s efforts to preserve the integrity of the financial and monetary system, protect the national currency and enhance its stability.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by relevant agents and the General Manager of the Central Bank.
