Mobile phone network users in Rafai and Mbomu have complained about the lack of local communication credit. According to users, Telecel signal has been disconnected for seven (07) months and Orange Centrafrique credit supply is irregular.

According to Orange mobile phone users, they have been facing a lack of voice call and text messaging facilities at many sales points for several weeks. Users of the Orange network feel cut off from the world without making calls.

“For days, I couldn’t even find credit at the Central Market. I wanted to call some relatives to find out their bachelor’s degree results, but it was difficult to get credits in Rafi. Melvia, a resident of the city, expressed regret over this.

If users complain about insufficient units, credit dealers see the impact of this deficiency on their business. “Sometimes, after a week or two, we have no credit left. To find some, we have to send the money to Bangassou. It often happens that the trustee embezzles the money given to him.” Jean de Dieu Biri, a distributor of telephone points at the Lafayette Centre Market, testified.

In addition to the lack of phone credit, Orange users also said they had difficulty changing their Sim cards. During the seven (07) month outage of the Telecel network, Orange remained the only network serving the town of Rafi. In Bangui, there has been no response from the mobile phone operator established in this remote southeastern town.
