Last Monday, a family tragedy rocked the city of Fez. A MRE in his thirties was arrested for murdering his grandmother at her home on Ain Chqef Road. The suspect was allegedly driven to commit this brutal act by mental illness, drug addiction and strained family relations while on vacation in his hometown.
The murder took place around 11pm on Sunday. The man allegedly killed his grandmother before being arrested by police. The victim’s body was taken to the El Ghassani Hospital mortuary for an autopsy.

The heinous crime caused an uproar in the neighbourhood, with people gathering in front of the victim’s home. The Attorney General has launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
It is noteworthy that this murder was the second of its kind in the region on the same night. Another homicide took place at a wedding in Tlalsa douar, in the commune of Ain Chqef, a few kilometers away.
The suspect appeared before prosecutors at the Fez Court of Appeal on Wednesday on charges of “assault and battery resulting in the death of a superior.”
