Airline JetAir Caribbean has suspended all flights from Curacao to Kingston, Jamaica.
On Tuesday, the Curacao Court of First Instance declared Jet Airways bankrupt.
Jet Airways is the only jet airline based in Aruba, Curaçao and Bonaire, operating scheduled flights connecting Curaçao with Aruba, Bonaire, Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Sint Maarten, Suriname and Colombia.
The airline received its operating license in November 2019, before the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
After the outbreak, Jet Airways actively resumed services, targeting routes from Curacao to Colombia, Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, Haiti and St. Maarten.
However, the expansion of local airlines Winair and Z Air, as well as the emergence of low-cost carrier Arajet and the expansion of Sky High, restricted JetAir’s limited operations.
Moreover, the high operating costs of the Fokker 70 aircraft forced Jet Airways to ground one aircraft to obtain spare parts.
Jet Airways reported losses of more than $1 million, leading to the cessation of Jet Airways operations.
