Canada’s ambassador to Lebanon, Stephanie McCollum, expressed support for the Lebanese government’s newly announced plan to ensure stability in the country’s southern region.
In an interview with LBCI TV, McCollum explained that the plan involves the Lebanese Army (LAF) taking charge of security in the south. She highlighted Canada’s ongoing cooperation with the Lebanese Army, including the provision of training, equipment and capacity-building support. McCollum expressed confidence that the Lebanese Army will be able to secure the south and maintain the border on Lebanon’s behalf in the long term.
Regarding the reconstruction of the destroyed towns in southern Lebanon, McCollum said: “We are waiting for the Lebanese government to put forward a specific reconstruction plan.” She also reiterated that Canada will continue to be the main donor to assist Lebanon in implementing these reconstruction plans.
