Goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau saved two shots in the penalty shootout as Canada beat Venezuela 4-3 after a 1-1 draw in regular time and advanced to the 2024 Copa America semi-finals against Argentina.

Crepeau was the hero for Canada at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, blocking shots by Jefferson Savarino and Wilk Angel. Yangel Herrera also missed a shot by Vinotinto from 12 steps.

Jonathan David, Moise Bombito, Alphonso Davies and Ismael Koné successfully played for the United States, which was among the best four on the continent for the first time at the Copa America. Six shots were needed per side to determine the winner.

Jacob Shaffelburg scored Canada’s first goal in the 12th minute in front of 51,000 fans, most of whom were red-faced, and all-time scorer Salomón Rondón equalized in the 65th minute.

Canada will face world champion Argentina for a spot in the tournament final on Tuesday at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. The two teams met in the Copa America opener in Atlanta, with the Albiceleste winning 2-0.
