AHSS students, are you ready to study abroad? Kimberly Moffitt, dean of the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (CAHSS), has established the CAHSS Dean’s Overseas Education Scholarship.

The scholarship guarantees $100,000 per year for the next four years to help offset the financial costs of studying abroad. Undergraduate and graduate students with at least a CAHSS major who need additional financial support to study abroad can apply for scholarships ranging from $1,500 to $5,000. The first round of scholarships has been awarded to 24 students.

Joseph Patarini ’25, environmental science and geography, is one of the recipients of the CAHSS Dean’s Overseas Education Scholarship. “Studying abroad is important to me because gaining diverse, global perspectives is essential to addressing today’s major environmental issues. By stepping out of our comfort zones and exploring new academic opportunities, we can deepen our understanding of global interconnectedness,” said Patarini, who will study in Morocco and Spain in summer 2024. “We can learn from new, diverse perspectives to enhance our skills” in problem solving, helping to develop a more holistic, adaptive approach.

“This scholarship has allowed me to study abroad and make the most of my college experience,” said dancer Ria Smith ’25, a recipient of the CAHSS Dean’s Overseas Education Scholarship heading to Italy in summer 2024. “I really appreciate the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences’ true commitment to the value of international education, which not only advances our academic development, but also our personal development.”
