The CAF Inter-Club Competition preliminary draw held at CAF headquarters on Thursday revealed the opponents of Senegalese clubs this season. Jaraf Dakar, who represent Senegal in the Confederations Cup, are preparing to face Sierra Leone East Zone Lions in the first round of the qualifiers.

Standing in Al-Jaraf’s way in the first qualifying round are Eastern Lions, one of Sierra Leone’s most successful clubs. Known for their aggressiveness and tenacity, Eastern Lions will not be easy prey for the Medina men. Al-Jaraf will have the advantage of playing the second leg at home in Senegal and they will need to take advantage of this opportunity to maximise their chances of qualifying.

In the qualifiers, the Medina club will face the winner of the duel between Union Touarga of Morocco and RC Abidjan of Ivory Coast. Union Touarga (4th in the Botola Professional League) and RC Abidjan (3rd in the Lonaci Ligue 1 and winners of the Ivory Coast Cup) represent strong opponents. Al-Jaraf will once again benefit from the advantage of playing at home in the second leg, an important strategic advantage in the knockout rounds. According to a CAF press release, the preliminaries of these matches will be held from August 18 to 25. The second round of qualifiers is scheduled for September 15 to 22.
