Health Minister Dr Christopher Tufton yesterday demonstrated the value of wearing a helmet when riding a bicycle, albeit in the most inconvenient way.
The health minister was on a routine Sunday morning bike ride when he was hit by a motorcycle ridden by popular dancehall artiste Valiant.
Although the pastor suffered a broken wrist, he was thankful to God.
“He was riding his bicycle and was wearing a helmet when the accident happened,” Information Minister Dr Dana Morris-Dixon told reporters. The Gleaners “Helmets can prevent more serious injuries, which is why we encourage all bicycle and motorcycle riders to wear one at all times.”

At around 1pm, Tufton posted a photo on Instagram of himself in a hospital bed at the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) where Valiant was visiting him.
“Well this Sunday wasn’t planned! Had a bad fall on my bike this morning,” Tufton captioned the photo. “I consider myself very lucky because it could have been a lot worse!! Thank you God and everyone who has been praying and messaging me.”
“Also, I want to thank the Valiant Hospital for being involved and for rushing me to UHWI, and the team of doctors and nurses who are currently caring for me.”

Opposition Leader Mark Golding offered his best wishes in commenting on the post.

Earlier, British Prime Minister Andrew Holness also wished Tufton a speedy recovery.
In an official statement from the People’s National Party (PNP), Jesse James Clarke, the junior shadow cabinet spokesperson for health and wellness, wished Tufton a speedy recovery.
“Special recognition goes to the staff of UHWI for their prompt and focused efforts to ensure the minister’s recovery. The PNP is confident that the authorities will expeditiously resolve this case,” Clark said.
