The first vice president of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Diosdado Cabello, said this Wednesday in the 479th edition of the show with Mazo Dando that “some” in the Venezuelan Bishops’ Conference do not like Dr. José Gregorio Hernández a saint.
“Some people in the conference don’t like that José Gregorio is a saint, but that’s an old story (…) He is a saint of the people, he doesn’t need much confirmation because people already consider him a saint, especially those who are humble,” Cabello said.
The representative of the red awning stressed that the passion that humble people have for José Gregorio is innate and noble, “José G. The president of the Episcopal Church of Venezuela, Jesus González de Zarate, assured in an interview with a private radio station that “they do not have an exact date for when the Congregation for Saints will approve the second miracle to allow the canonization” of the famous doctor of the poor.
“As you can see through social media, last Monday we had an audience with Pope Francis where, obviously, among other problems of national and ecclesial reality, we discussed the process of canonization of Saint Dr. José Gregorio Hernández, but there is no definitive news on this issue yet,” he said at the Vatican along with other members of the Conference Board.
In this sense, he added, “the canonization itself has not yet been signed, the pope is in charge, he is close and knows the whole process well. But we do not know if the canonization is finalized, nor are we told that this step is done and is being processed.”
Pope Francis confirms canonization
President Maduro showed a small crowd in Ishinotu, the small town of Trujillo where Dr Hernández was born, a video of the Supreme Pontiff confirming in Plaza San Pedro that he had signed the beatification.
